2015-09-07Make pow2ceil() and pow2floor() inlinePeter Maydell
Since the pow2floor() function is now used in a hot code path, make it inline; for consistency, provide pow2ceil() as an inline function too. Because these functions use ctz64() we have to put the inline versions into host-utils.h, so they have access to ctz64(), and move the inline is_power_of_2() along with them. We then need to include host-utils.h from qemu-common.h so that the files which use these functions via qemu-common.h still have access to them. 2015-08-19qemu-common.h: Move muldiv64() to host-utils.hPeter Maydell
Move the muldiv64() function from qemu-common.h to host-utils.h. This puts it together with all the other arithmetic functions where we provide a version with __int128_t and a fallback without, and allows headers which need muldiv64() to avoid including qemu-common.h. We don't include host-utils from qemu-common.h, to avoid dragging more things into qemu-common.h than it already has; in practice everywhere that needs muldiv64() can get it via qemu/timer.h. 2015-07-06Stop including qemu-common.h in memory.hPeter Maydell
Including qemu-common.h from other header files is generally a bad idea, because it means it's very easy to end up with a circular dependency. For instance, if we wanted to include memory.h from qom/cpu.h we'd end up with this loop: memory.h -> qemu-common.h -> cpu.h -> cpu-qom.h -> qom/cpu.h -> memory.h Remove the include from memory.h. This requires us to fix up a few other files which were inadvertently getting declarations indirectly through memory.h. The biggest change is splitting the fprintf_function typedef out into its own header so other headers can get at it without having to include qemu-common.h. 2014-11-02pidfile: stop making pidfile error a special caseMichael Tokarev
In case of -daemonize, we write non-zero to the daemon pipe only if pidfile creation failed, so the parent will report error about pidfile problem. There's no need to make special case for this, since all other errors are reported by the child just fine. Let the parent report error and simplify logic in os_daemonize(). This way, we don't need os_pidfile_error() function, since it only prints error now, so put the error reporting printf into the only place where qemu_create_pidfile() is called, in vl.c. 2014-10-03util: Emancipate id_wellformed() from QemuOptsMarkus Armbruster
IDs have long spread beyond QemuOpts: not everything with an ID necessarily goes through QemuOpts. Commit 9aebf3b is about such a case: block layer names are meant to be well-formed IDs, but some of them don't go through QemuOpts, and thus weren't checked. The commit fixed that the straightforward way: rename the internal QemuOpts helper id_wellformed() to qemu_opts_id_wellformed() and give it external linkage. Instead of using it directly in block.c, the commit adds wrapper bdrv_is_valid_name(), probably to hide the connection to QemuOpts. Go one logical step further: emancipate IDs from QemuOpts. Rename the function back to id_wellformed(), and put it in another file. While there, clean up its value to bool. Peel off the bdrv_is_valid_name() wrapper. Ticks and clock offset used by CPU timers have to be saved in vmstate. But vmstate for these fields registered only in icount mode. Missing registration leads to breaking the continuity when vmstate is loaded. This patch introduces new initialization function which fixes this. In two places qemu uses openpty() which is very system-dependent, and in both places the pty is switched to raw mode as well. Make a wrapper function which does both steps, and move all the system-dependent complexity into a separate file, together with static/local implementations of openpty() and cfmakeraw() from qemu-char.c. It is in a separate file, not part of oslib-posix.c, because openpty() often resides in -lutil which is not linked to every program qemu builds. This change removes #including of <pty.h>, <termios.h> and other rather specific system headers out of qemu-common.h, which isn't a place for such specific headers really. This version has been verified to build correctly on Linux, OpenBSD, FreeBSD and OpenIndiana. On the latter it lets qemu to be built with gtk gui which were not possible there due to missing openpty() and cfmakeraw(). 2013-04-29win32: add readv/writev emulationPaolo Bonzini
Commit e9d8fbf (qemu-file: do not use stdio for qemu_fdopen, 2013-03-27) introduced a usage of writev, which mingw32 does not have. Even though qemu_fdopen itself is not used on mingw32, the future-proof solution is to add an implementation of it. This is simple and similar to how we emulate sendmsg/recvmsg in util/iov.c. Some files include osdep.h without qemu-common.h, so move the definition of iovec to osdep.h too, and include osdep.h from qemu-common.h unconditionally (protection against including files when NEED_CPU_H is defined is not needed since the removal of AREG0). this adds buffer_find_nonzero_offset() which is a SSE2/Altivec optimized function that searches for non-zero content in a buffer. the function starts full unrolling only after the first few chunks have been checked one by one. analyzing real memory page data has revealed that non-zero pages are non-zero within the first 256-512 bits in most cases. as this function is also heavily used to check for zero memory pages this tweak has been made to avoid the high setup costs of the fully unrolled check for non-zero pages. due to the optimizations used in the function there are restrictions on buffer address and search length. the function can_use_buffer_find_nonzero_content() can be used to check if the function can be used safely.
