2021-11-01memory: make global_dirty_tracking a bitmaskHyman Huang(黄勇)
since dirty ring has been introduced, there are two methods to track dirty pages of vm. it seems that "logging" has a hint on the method, so rename the global_dirty_log to global_dirty_tracking would make description more accurate. dirty rate measurement may start or stop dirty tracking during calculation. this conflict with migration because stop dirty tracking make migration leave dirty pages out then that'll be a problem. make global_dirty_tracking a bitmask can let both migration and dirty rate measurement work fine. introduce GLOBAL_DIRTY_MIGRATION and GLOBAL_DIRTY_DIRTY_RATE to distinguish what current dirty tracking aims for, migration or dirty rate. Ram block notifiers are currently not aware of resizes. To properly handle resizes during migration, we want to teach ram block notifiers about resizeable ram. Introduce the basic infrastructure but keep using max_size in the existing notifiers. Supply the max_size when adding and removing ram blocks. Also, notify on resizes. 2021-05-10xen-mapcache: avoid a race on memory map while using MAP_FIXEDIgor Druzhinin
When we're replacing the existing mapping there is possibility of a race on memory map with other threads doing mmap operations - the address being unmapped/re-mapped could be occupied by another thread in between. Linux mmap man page recommends keeping the existing mappings in place to reserve the place and instead utilize the fact that the next mmap operation with MAP_FIXED flag passed will implicitly destroy the existing mappings behind the chosen address. This behavior is guaranteed by POSIX / BSD and therefore is portable. Note that it wouldn't make the replacement atomic for parallel accesses to the replaced region - those might still fail with SIGBUS due to xenforeignmemory_map not being atomic. So we're still not expecting those. 2020-09-23qemu/atomic.h: rename atomic_ to qatomic_Stefan Hajnoczi
clang's C11 atomic_fetch_*() functions only take a C11 atomic type pointer argument. QEMU uses direct types (int, etc) and this causes a compiler error when a QEMU code calls these functions in a source file that also included <stdatomic.h> via a system header file: $ CC=clang CXX=clang++ ./configure ... && make ../util/async.c:79:17: error: address argument to atomic operation must be a pointer to _Atomic type ('unsigned int *' invalid) Avoid using atomic_*() names in QEMU's atomic.h since that namespace is used by <stdatomic.h>. Prefix QEMU's APIs with 'q' so that atomic.h and <stdatomic.h> can co-exist. I checked /usr/include on my machine and searched GitHub for existing "qatomic_" users but there seem to be none. 2020-08-21trace: switch position of headers to what Meson requiresPaolo Bonzini
Meson doesn't enjoy the same flexibility we have with Make in choosing the include path. In particular the tracing headers are using $(build_root)/$(<D). In order to keep the include directives unchanged, the simplest solution is to generate headers with patterns like "trace/trace-audio.h" and place forwarding headers in the source tree such that for example "audio/trace.h" includes "trace/trace-audio.h". This patch is too ugly to be applied to the Makefiles now. It's only a way to separate the changes to the tracing header files from the Meson rewrite of the tracing logic. sysemu/sysemu.h is a rather unfocused dumping ground for stuff related to the system-emulator. Evidence: * It's included widely: in my "build everything" tree, changing sysemu/sysemu.h still triggers a recompile of some 1100 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h, down from 5400 due to the previous two commits). * It pulls in more than a dozen additional headers. Split stuff related to run state management into its own header sysemu/runstate.h. Touching sysemu/sysemu.h now recompiles some 850 objects. qemu/uuid.h also drops from 1100 to 850, and qapi/qapi-types-run-state.h from 4400 to 4200. Touching new sysemu/runstate.h recompiles some 500 objects. Since I'm touching MAINTAINERS to add sysemu/runstate.h anyway, also add qemu/main-loop.h. In my "build everything" tree, changing sysemu/sysemu.h triggers a recompile of some 5400 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h). hw/qdev-core.h includes sysemu/sysemu.h since recent commit e965ffa70a "qdev: add qdev_add_vm_change_state_handler()". This is a bad idea: hw/qdev-core.h is widely included. Move the declaration of qdev_add_vm_change_state_handler() to sysemu/sysemu.h, and drop the problematic include from hw/qdev-core.h. Touching sysemu/sysemu.h now recompiles some 1800 objects. qemu/uuid.h also drops from 5400 to 1800. A few more headers show smaller improvement: qemu/notify.h drops from 5600 to 5200, qemu/timer.h from 5600 to 4500, and qapi/qapi-types-run-state.h from 5500 to 5000. Include hw/qdev-core.h there instead. hw/qdev.h is actually pointless: all it does is include hw/qdev-core.h and hw/qdev-properties.h, which in turn includes hw/qdev-core.h. For the others, they shrink only slightly. Subsequent patches will flesh-out the functionality of these objects. When issuing the qmp/hmp 'system_wakeup' command, what happens in a nutshell is: - qmp_system_wakeup_request set runstate to RUNNING, sets a wakeup_reason and notify the event - in the main_loop, all vcpus are paused, a system reset is issued, all subscribers of wakeup_notifiers receives a notification, vcpus are then resumed and the wake up QAPI event is fired Note that this procedure alone doesn't ensure that the guest will awake from SUSPENDED state - the subscribers of the wake up event must take action to resume the guest, otherwise the guest will simply reboot. At this moment, only the ACPI machines via acpi_pm1_cnt_init and xen_hvm_init have wake-up from suspend support. However, only the presence of 'system_wakeup' is required for QGA to support 'guest-suspend-ram' and 'guest-suspend-hybrid' at this moment. This means that the user/management will expect to suspend the guest using one of those suspend commands and then resume execution using system_wakeup, regardless of the support offered in system_wakeup in the first place. This patch creates a new API called query-current-machine [1], that holds a new flag called 'wakeup-suspend-support' that indicates if the guest supports wake up from suspend via system_wakeup. The machine is considered to implement wake-up support if a call to a new 'qemu_register_wakeup_support' is made during its init, as it is now being done inside acpi_pm1_cnt_init and xen_hvm_init. This allows for any other machine type to declare wake-up support regardless of ACPI state or wakeup_notifiers subscription, making easier for newer implementations that might have their own mechanisms in the future.
