2016-07-04memory: Provide memory_region_init_rom()Peter Maydell
Provide a new helper function memory_region_init_rom() for memory regions which are read-only (and unlike those created by memory_region_init_rom_device() don't have special behaviour for writes). This has the same behaviour as calling memory_region_init_ram() and then memory_region_set_readonly() (which is what we do today in boards with pure ROMs) but is a more easily discoverable API for the purpose. 2016-04-08docs: fix typo in memory.txtWei Jiangang
The space between 7000 and 8000 is too wide by 1 character. Also correct the range of vga-window example 0xa0000-0xbffff. 2016-04-05doc/memory: update MMIO sectionCao jin
There is no memory_region_io(). And remove a stray '-'. Signed-off-by: Cao jin <caoj.fnst@cn.fujitsu.com> Message-Id: <1459507677-16662-1-git-send-email-caoj.fnst@cn.fujitsu.com> Signed-off-by: Paolo Bonzini <pbonzini@redhat.com>
2016-03-07doc/memory.txt: correct description of MemoryRegionOps fieldsPeter Maydell
Probably what happened was that when the API was being designed it started off with an 'aligned' field, and then later the field name and semantics were changed but the docs weren't updated to match. Similarly, cpu_register_io_memory() does not exist anymore, so clarify the documentation for .old_mmio. In the regions overlap example, region B has a higher priority thus should has a larger priority number than C. Signed-off-by: xiaoqiang zhao <zxq_yx_007@163.com> Message-Id: <1456476051-15121-1-git-send-email-zxq_yx_007@163.com> Signed-off-by: Paolo Bonzini <pbonzini@redhat.com>
2016-02-09docs/memory.txt: Improve list of different memory regionsPeter Maydell
Improve the part of the memory region documentation which describes the various different kinds of memory region: * add the missing types ROM, IOMMU and reservation * mention the functions used to initialize each type, as a hint for finding the API docs and examples of use Signed-off-by: Peter Maydell <peter.maydell@linaro.org> Message-Id: <1454007297-3971-1-git-send-email-peter.maydell@linaro.org> Signed-off-by: Paolo Bonzini <pbonzini@redhat.com>

2014-08-18memory: convert memory_region_destroy to object_unparentPaolo Bonzini
Explicitly call object_unparent in the few places where we will re-create the memory region. If the memory region is simply being destroyed as part of device teardown, let QOM handle it. Signed-off-by: Paolo Bonzini <pbonzini@redhat.com>
2014-05-07docs/memory.txt: Fix document on MMIO operationsFam Zheng
.impl.valid should be .impl.unaligned and the description needs some fixes. .old_portio is removed since commit b40acf99b (ioport: Switch dispatching to memory core layer). Signed-off-by: Fam Zheng <famz@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Michael Tokarev <mjt@tls.msk.ru>
2013-11-05docs/memory.txt: Clarify and expand priority/overlap documentationPeter Maydell
The documentation of how overlapping memory regions behave and how the priority system works was rather brief, and confusion about priorities seems to be quite common for developers trying to understand how the memory region system works, so expand and clarify it. This includes a worked example with overlaps, documentation of the behaviour when an overlapped container has "holes", and mention that it's valid for a region to have both MMIO callbacks and subregions (and how this interacts with priorities when it does). 2013-10-14docs/memory: Explictly state that MemoryRegion priority is signedMarcel Apfelbaum
When memory regions overlap, priority can be used to specify which of them takes priority. By making the priority values signed rather than unsigned, we make it more convenient to implement a situation where one "background" region should appear only where no other region exists: rather than having to explicitly specify a high priority for all the other regions, we can let them take the default (zero) priority and specify a negative priority for the background region.
