2020-01-08xive: Use the XIVE fabric link under the XIVE routerGreg Kurz
Now that the spapr and pnv machines do set the "xive-fabric" link, the use of the XIVE fabric pointer becomes mandatory. This is checked with an assert() in a new realize hook. Since the XIVE router is realized at machine init for the all the machine's life time, no risk to abort an already running guest (ie. not a hotplug path). This gets rid of a qdev_get_machine() call. 2020-01-08spapr, pnv, xive: Add a "xive-fabric" link to the XIVE routerGreg Kurz
In order to get rid of qdev_get_machine(), first add a pointer to the XIVE fabric under the XIVE router and make it configurable through a QOM link property. Configure it in the spapr and pnv machine. In the case of pnv, the XIVE routers are under the chip, so this is done with a QOM alias property of the POWER9 pnv chip. 2020-01-08spapr/xive: remove redundant check in spapr_match_nvt()Cédric Le Goater
spapr_match_nvt() is a XIVE operation and is used by the machine to look for a matching target when an event notification is being delivered. An assert checks that spapr_match_nvt() is called only when the machine has selected the XIVE interrupt mode but it is redundant with the XIVE_PRESENTER() dynamic cast. Apply the cast to spapr->active_intc and remove the assert. 2020-01-08ppc/pnv: Drop "num-chips" machine propertyGreg Kurz
The number of CPU chips of the powernv machine is configurable through a "num-chips" property. This doesn't fit well with the CPU topology, eg. some configurations can come up with more CPUs than the maximum of CPUs set in the toplogy. This causes assertion to be hit with mttcg: -machine powernv,num-chips=2 -smp cores=2 -accel tcg,thread=multi ERROR: tcg/tcg.c:789:tcg_register_thread: assertion failed: (n < ms->smp.max_cpus) Aborted (core dumped) Mttcg mandates the CPU topology to be dimensioned to the actual number of CPUs, depending on the number of chips the user asked for. That is, '-machine num-chips=N' should always have a '-smp' companion with a topology that meats the resulting number of CPUs, typically '-smp sockets=N'. It thus seems that "num-chips" doesn't bring anything but forcing the user to specify the requested number of chips on the command line twice. Simplify the command line by computing the number of chips based on the CPU topology exclusively. The powernv machine isn't a production thing ; it is mostly used by developpers to prepare the bringup of real HW. Because of this and for simplicity, this deliberately ignores the official deprecation process and dumps "num-chips" right away : '-smp sockets=N' is now the only way to control the number of CPU chips. This is done at machine init because smp_parse() is called after instance init. 2020-01-08ppc/spapr: Support reboot of secure pseries guestBharata B Rao
A pseries guest can be run as a secure guest on Ultravisor-enabled POWER platforms. When such a secure guest is reset, we need to release/reset a few resources both on ultravisor and hypervisor side. This is achieved by invoking this new ioctl KVM_PPC_SVM_OFF from the machine reset path. As part of this ioctl, the secure guest is essentially transitioned back to normal mode so that it can reboot like a regular guest and become secure again. This ioctl has no effect when invoked for a normal guest. If this ioctl fails for a secure guest, the guest is terminated. 2020-01-07tests/iothread: Always connect iothread GSource to a GMainContextPeter Maydell
On older versions of glib (anything prior to glib commit 0f056ebe from May 2019), the implementation of g_source_ref() and g_source_unref() is not threadsafe for a GSource which is not attached to a GMainContext. QEMU's real iothread.c implementation always attaches its iothread->ctx's GSource to a GMainContext created for that iothread, so it is OK, but the simple test framework implementation in tests/iothread.c was not doing this. This was causing intermittent assertion failures in the test-aio-multithread subtest "/aio/multi/mutex/contended" test on the BSD hosts. (It's unclear why only BSD seems to have been affected -- perhaps a combination of the specific glib version being used in the VMs and their happening to run on a host with a lot of CPUs). Borrow the iothread_init_gcontext() from the real iothread.c and add the corresponding cleanup code and the calls to g_main_context_push/pop_thread_default() so we actually use the GMainContext we create. 2020-01-07q800: implement mac rom reset function for BIOS-less modeJason A. Donenfeld
On Linux, calling `reboot(RB_AUTOBOOT);` will result in arch/m68k/mac/misc.c's mac_reset function being called. That in turn looks at the rombase (or uses 0x40800000 is there's no rombase), adds 0xa, and jumps to that address. At the moment, there's nothing there, so the kernel just crashes when trying to reboot. So, this commit adds a very simple implementation at that location, which just writes to via2 to power down. The kvm irqchip notifier is only registered if the device supports INTx, however it's unconditionally removed. If the assigned device does not support INTx, this will cause QEMU to crash when unplugging the device from the system. Change it to conditionally remove the notifier only if the notify hook is setup. Various options exist to transfer their state: 1) as the VM memory, RAM or devices (we could say that's how vhost-user devices can be handled today, they are expected to restore from ring state) 2) other "vmstate" (as with TPM emulator state blobs) 3) left to be handled by management layer 1) is not practical, since an external processes may legitimatelly need arbitrary state date to back a device or a service, or may not even have an associated device. 2) needs ad-hoc code for each helper, but is simple and working 3) is complicated for management layer, QEMU has the migration timing The proposed "dbus-vmstate" object will connect to a given D-Bus address, and save/load from org.qemu.VMState1 owners on migration. Thus helpers can easily have their state migrated with QEMU, without implementing ad-hoc support (such as done for TPM emulation) D-Bus is ubiquitous on Linux (it is systemd IPC), and can be made to work on various other OSes. There are several implementations and good bindings for various languages. 2020-01-06virtio: make seg_max virtqueue size dependentDenis Plotnikov
Before the patch, seg_max parameter was immutable and hardcoded to 126 (128 - 2) without respect to queue size. This has two negative effects: 1. when queue size is < 128, we have Virtio 1.1 specfication violation: (2.6.5.3.1 Driver Requirements) seq_max must be <= queue_size. This violation affects the old Linux guests (ver < 4.14). These guests crash on these queue_size setups. 2. when queue_size > 128, as was pointed out by Denis Lunev <den@virtuozzo.com>, seg_max restrics guest's block request length which affects guests' performance making them issues more block request than needed. https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/qemu-devel/2017-12/msg03721.html To mitigate this two effects, the patch adds the property adjusting seg_max to queue size automaticaly. Since seg_max is a guest visible parameter, the property is machine type managable and allows to choose between old (seg_max = 126 always) and new (seg_max = queue_size - 2) behaviors. Not to change the behavior of the older VMs, prevent setting the default seg_max_adjust value for older machine types.
